When we went to California and visited the Catalina Sea Ranch we didn’t know what to expect. We traveled 6 miles out from the Port of LA into International waters. Catalina Sea Ranch manages a 100-acre sea ranch and are the first offshore aquaculture facility to be granted a federal permit to operate in U.S. waters. Mediterranean mussels on longlines are their main crop. Giant kelp, giant rock scallops, Pacific oysters, macro algae and abalone are all planned for their future expansion.
