about us

The definition of sustainable seafood is that it must be farmed or caught in ways that consider the impact on the oceans, the long-term survival and well-being of harvested species and the continued livelihoods of the fishing community.

The “Searching For Seastainable Seafood” project was founded on a mission to help bring awareness to the issues the oceans and our planet are facing. Award winning Chef Barton Seaver is an expert on seafood sustainability. He takes the viewer on a path to understand what WE can do. We’ll be talking to many people about the great things they are doing to provide healthy seafood options for our growing population. Our host Michael Opal will be gathering the stories that takes us in search of sustainable seafood.

“Having a masters in Marine biochemistry, I was amazed to see the technological advances in the marine fisheries aquaculture industry. This documentary was a true testament for the necessity to further advance the sustainable fisheries industry. BRAVO!”

For many years, pollution, over-fishing and the many aspects of climate change threaten our oceans and their creatures with almost irreversible destruction.  How can we hope to repair the damage?  Will our children face a future without fish and seafood?  How will we feed the world’s growing population?

“Searching For Seastainable Seafood” is an independent series that is trying to answer some of these questions. We met up with people around the country and parts of the world who are focused on producing healthy, quality seafood in sustainable ways. We looked at sustainable wild fishing practices as well as new methods in aquaculture. We visited fish-farming operations that focus on providing a humane environment without the use of antibiotics. We saw aquaculture operations that focused on mussels, oysters and other shellfish that help heal the oceans, by filtering large amounts of water. We also visited kelp and seaweed farms, whose products are removing CO2 and other harmful toxins from the ocean. Our quest was to find sustainable seafood and we found it. Many more countries, companies and consumers must join in the journey if we hope to protect the oceans and they’re species for future generations.

“Searching For Seastainable Seafood” Follow our team to hear about what people are doing to help preserve the resources that are available to feed the planet quality, healthy sustainable seafood.
