When in Maine we had a chance to see how kelp was started in seawater tanks. Briana Warner, CEO of Atlantic Sea Farms broke down the kelp life-cycle. Once the kelp is large enough, its transferred onto longer grow lines. At the time for harvesting, many lobster fishermen in Maine use their boats on the offseason tor the harvest. Atlantic Sea Farms founders created the first commercially viable seaweed farm in the United States in 2009, with the goal of diversifying how our coastal waters are used by providing a domestic, fresh, healthy alternative to imported seaweed products.
